the concept that the individulars are to be treated in a matter that is equitable and fair
Equity
everyone is provided with specific resources that they need to be successful
Inculsion
embrace all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical or other needs. it is about giving equal access and opportunities and getting rib for discrimination and intolerance (removal of barriers)
Steps to embrace JEDI
1) approach with cultural humility
2) first, listen and respect, then reflect
3) brave mistakes lead to progress
4) keep focus on issue not intent
5) inform yourself and do research
health equity
the idea that everyone has the opportunity to achieve their full health potential. no one is disadvantages from achieving this potential because of their social position
health inequality
health inequalities are when people are disadvantaged from achieving potential because of social position or other socially determined position
person first language
emphasizes the person before the disability
identity first language
puts the disability first in the description
ableism
the discrimination of social prejudice against people with disabilities based on the belief that typical abilities are superior
micro affirmations
1) mirror that language that someone uses to decribe themselves
2) acknowledge important holidays and life milestones
3) when someone isnt participating, take notice, and support them
4) invite someone to speak and share their experience
5) provide both positive feedback and constructive cirticism
