Floor of Temporal Fossa and deep surface to temporal fascia
Temporalis: I
Tip and medial of Coronoid process and anterior border of Ramus of Mandible
Temporalis: N
Deep Temporal branches of Mandibular Nerve (CN V)
Temporalis: A
- Elevates Mandible to close jaw
- retrudes (pulls back) Mandible after protrusion (pulls anterior) (posterior fibers)
Masseter: O
Inferior border and medial aspect of Zygomatic Arch
Masseter: I
Coronoid Process and lateral aspect of Ramus of Mandible
Masseter: N
Mandible Nerve via Massenteric Nerve
Masseter: A
- Elevates Mandible to close Jaw
- Protrudes Mandible anteriorly
- retrudes Mandible (deep fibres)
Lateral Pterygoid: O
Superior Head - Infratemporal surface and crest of Greater Wing of Sphenoid
Inferior Head – Laterally on lateral Pterygoid Plate
Lateral Pterygoid: I
Neck of Mandible, articular disc and capsule and capsule of Temporomandibular joint
Lateral Pterygoid: N
Mandible Nerve via lateral Pterygoid Nerve
Lateral Pterygoid: A
- Depresses Mandible to open Jaw
- protrudes Mandible anteriorly
- protrudes Mandible laterally (unilaterally)
- protrudes side to side movement of mandible (unilaterally and alternately)
Medial Pterygoid: O
Deep Head – Medial on lateral Pterygoid Plate and Pyramidal process of Palatine
Superficial Head – Tuberosity of Maxilla
Medial Pterygoid: I
Medial aspect of Ramus of Mandible, inferior to Mandible Foramen
Medial Pterygoid: N
Deep Head – Medial on lateral Pterygoid Plate and Pyramidal process of Palatine
Superficial Head – Tuberosity of Maxilla
