ACUTE FATTY LIVER OF PREGNANCY

  • rare
  • usually occurs in 3rd trimester of pregnancy or period immediately after delivery

  1. Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, jaundice, hypoglycaemia, may result in pre-eclampsia
  2. Raised ALT ie 500 iu/L
  3. Supportive care and delivery once stabilised

  • Most common liver disease in pregnancy(1%)
  • Usually occurs in 3rd trimester

    2. Management
    3. Complications

  1. Pruritus, often in palms and soles. No rash. Raised bilirubin
  2. Ursodeoxycholic acid for symptomatic relief. IOL at 37w.
  3. Increased risk of stillbirth
