CERVICAL ECTROPION

A
  • normal finding in younger women especially if pregnant or on COCP.
  • normally asymptomatic but occassionally vaginal discharge/post-coital bleeding
  • Erythema around cervical os
  • Tx: Cryotherapy after carcinoma excluded
  • Complications: Infection

  1. Acute
  2. Chronic

  1. Acute:
    - Causes: STI, severe prolapse
  2. Chronic:
    - usually inflammation/infection of an ectropion
    - vaginal discharge, inflammatory smears
    - Tx: Cryotherapy with/without antibiotics based on bacterial culture

CERVICAL POLYP

A
  1. Most common >40y
  2. Usually asymptomatic
    - <1cm
    - Can cause intermenstrual bleeding or post-coital bleeding
  3. Tx: Avulsion of small polyps without anaesthetic. Can use Silver nitrate
    - Histological examination of tissue and appropriate investigations for bleeding

  • White/opaque swellings on ectocervix

- No treatment required unless symptomatic(rare)
