chapter 1-“a more ___ and ___ disposition , a more ___ and ___ manner - something ___, franker, more natural, sit were - she really must exclude me from ___ intended only for ___ happy little children”

SOCIETY/CLASS/FAMILY/INDEPENDENCE/CHILDHOOD

A

sociable, childlike, attractive, sprightly, lighter, privileges, contended.
mrs reed isn’t doing this to make Jane become a better child like she claims. irony and hypocrisy are clear in Brontes word choices of ‘sprightly’ and ‘lighter’ suggesting freedom when they actually mean conforming to society’s ideals. this is also shown in ‘contented, happy little children’ as they actually refer to doing as they’re told. quote creates an impression of children speaking their mind but ‘as it were’ has a sarcastic tone suggesting only true if socially acceptable.
