Q

Why do we have standardised symbols?

A

Used to label the elements of the periodic table to reduce confusion between people of different languages. The letters often come from the Latin translation of the word.

Q

Why do we have models in science?

A

Used to explain complex data, events or predict future events. Climate change models predict the effects of climate change using data like the increase in temperature and salinity in oceans.

Q

Why Is the periodic table important?

A

It is important because it has the elements arranged into groups in columns and sections. An elements position on the table can show what type of elements it is, how reactive it is, if it conduct electricity…

Q

What is an element?

A

A substance that can not be broken down into and simpler substance. Made entirely of one type of atom. Each element is distinguished by its atomic number (number of protons in the nucleus)

Q

What is a mixture?

A

They are made up of different pure substances mixed together. They can be made up of two or more elements or compounds or a combination of both. The substances that make up a mixture can usually be easily separated.
