Q

What happened in Greece during WW2?

A

On October 28th 1940, Italy launched an attack on Greece from its base in Albania. Mussolini had assumed that Greece only had 30,000 men so only sent in 60,000. However, it turned out that Greece had 300,000 men so the Italians were thoroughly beaten. Q

What were the military reasons for Italy’s lack of success during the war?

A

using techniques and strategies from the 19th century, weapons were old (WW1) and sparse, with only 35 out of the 75 divisions being fully armed. Rations were low and there was a language barrier between the conscripts and the commanders, resulting in a lack of morale.

What were the main economic reasons for Italy’s lack of success during WW2?

A

lacked natural resources needed to build weapons and other military equipment, as well as meet domestic needs. in 1942, the industry achieved in the USA is a week was equal to that of Italy in a year. Italy didn’t have the money to fund an army after the Albanian war, the Abyssinian war and the intervention in the Spanish civil war.
