A
Guidelines to prevent the spread of communicable disease

What are the two types of isolation precautions?
A
Standard/routine and extended/transmission based

What are extended precautions?
A
Based on what we know to be communicable (droplet, contact, airborne)

What are contact precautions?
A
Patients placed in a private room/room with a patient with an active infection via same organism
- Gloves and gown worn (gown removed before leaving room

What are airborne precautions?
A
Patients must be in a private room with door kept closed
- Air in the same room is discharged to outdoors air/filtered
- Anyone entering wears N95
