Why is the Isle so great for day-trippers?
It can be easily reached and provides lots of attractions for many age groups.
What are the three main attractions to the isle?
- Goatfell = A 874m mountain which Ireland is visible from the top.
- A’Chir Ridge = A knife-edged glacial erete for walkers to climb
- Glacial Troughs = Arran has several deep, wide, U-Shaped valleys.
What are the Negative impacts of the tourism?
- Footpath erosion on the highly travelled paths, especially the steep slopes.
- Congestion at popular times.
- Injuries/Fatalities are common, many have died from walking and climbing mountains.
What are the Positive impacts of the tourism?
- Large part of the islands income from tourism - 200,000 visitors annually.
- A range of tourism jobs created generating around £30 million annually.
- Tourism is combating the island’s ageing population

As the number of visitor’s to the island increases, more people are getting into danger than before and more footpaths are being eroded than before.
