What is Shahadah?
Belief and faith in Allah.
What are the five pillars of Islam?
Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj.
What is Salat?
Praying to Allah five times a day.
While praying, what direction do Muslims face (and why)?
Towards Mecca, because it contains the Kaaba, a stone connecting the line of prophets. Mecca was also where Muhammad received gods message.
What is Zakat?
Giving to the poor (charity).
Why is giving to the poor important?
Because everyone is created by God and therefore important, so everyone should be treated with kindness.
What is Sawm?
Fasting from dawn to sunset during the holy month of Ramadan.
What is Ramadan?
The holy month when the Qur’an was revieled.
Why do Muslims fast?
Because it reminds them to think of others, and that their spiritual needs are more important than their physical ones.
What is the Hajj?
A journey into Mecca that every Muslim is expected to make during their lifetime.
What is the significance of the Hajj?
It is believed that after journeying to Mecca, your sins are washed away.
What is the Qur’an?
The written word of Allah, in Arabic.
Why is the Qur’an significant?
It is God’s exact messages and strictures.
What is paradise and hell for Muslims?
Paradise—good deeds outweigh bad deeds, and submission to God
Hell—bad deeds outweigh good deeds
What is Islam?
Submission to the will of Allah.
What is a Muslim?
Someone who has submitted to Allah.

Why is Muhammad considered to be the most important prophet in Muslim traditions?
Because he is the only prophet to get God’s message completely right.
What is the Qu’ran?
Muhammad’s revelations, put together years after his death.
What is the significance of Mecca?
It was a center point of Arabian religion and trade.
Why is the first pillar of Islam to “declare faith”?
Because Muslims must accept that there is no god but God.
Why do Muslims pray daily?
To bring them closer to God.
Why is the Ka’aba significant?
It connects Muslims to Abraham, who constructed the Ka’aba.
Why is the Hijrah so significant to Muslims?
Because Muhammad was accepted as a political leader in Medina.
What are activities that Muslims must participate in during the Hajj?
They must wear all white, and circle the Ka’aba.
Why are Jews and Christians referred to as “People of the Book”?
Because they are guided by holy writings that come from God.
Why was Muhammad’s return to Mecca important?
Because he took over the city, and converted it into the most important Islam city.
What is the Shari’a?
An Islam system that regulated morality.
