What is moksha?
When the soul is completely purified, and freed from the cycle of recarnation.
What is the unlit mate goal of Hinduism?
To purify/free the soul and achieve moksha.
What is monism?
The Hindu belief that everything in the universe is connected (not individual droplets, but an ocean).
What are the two realities?
Maya and Brahman.
What is maya?
Maya is the illusion of life that we create because of desire.
What is Brahman?
The true reality- the world soul.
What are the three personalities of Brahman?
Brahma, the creator, Vishnu, the protector, and Shiva, the destroyer.
What is reincarnation?
The idea that the soul is reborn until it achieves moksha.
What is karma?
The idea that good and bad actions impact your future life’s, and how quickly you will achieve moksha.
What is Brahman?
A state achieved after the soul is purified, where all souls are united.
Name three things a person can do to help them achieve Brahman.
1) Follow their dharma
2) Practice yoga and meditation
3) Seek a guru’s guidance
What are the four aims of life?
1) Kama (pleasure)
2) Artha (stuff)
3) Dharma (responsibility)
4) Moksha (liberation)
What are the four stages of life?
1) Student (learning, under control of father)
2) House holder (pleasure, gain, righteousness: first three aims at life are dealt with)
3) Hermit or forest dweller (ready to take the quest to moksha)
4) Renunciant (liberation)
What is the “center” of Hinduism?
The household.
How is Hinduism celebrated in households?
Daily offerings, hymns, meditation.
