lower left sided abd pain + rectal bleeding, occasionally shock
sigmoidoscopy
normal apart from blood
Tx
conservative: fluid replacement + antibiotics
surgery for gangrene, perforation or stricture formation
gold standard tests
colonoscopy + biopsy
what usually causes it?
low flow in the inferior mesenteric artery
what does the SMA supply
from the lower part of the duodenum through two-thirds of the transverse colon, as well as the pancreas
what supplies the left 3rd of the transverse colon to proximal rectum
