Tuath
Celtic Ireland was divided into small kingdoms. The land and people were called tuath.
Iron Age
Began in 4000BC. Metal was discovered and replaced bronze.

The royal family.

The learned skilled people next in importance to the warriors.
Druid
They organised religious ceremonies and offered sacrifices to the gods.
Rath
Raths were forts enclosed by circular ditches or mounds of earth. Made from timber. Stone Raths were called cashels.
Crannóg
Man made house built on a lake. Attached to land by a bridge, boat or secret stepping stones.
Hillfort
They were built on a hill. Used for festivals or markets. Headquarter of important Celtic kings.
Promontory fort
Built on cliff tops. A semi-circle wall was protecting the inside.
Léine
A knee length linen tunic worn by men.
Crois
Used to tie a léine by the waste.
Brat
Woollen cloaks both men and women wore.
An dagda
A chief god celts believed in.
Lugh
The god of war, that the celts believed in.
Ogham stone
Stones placed where cremated remains were buried.
