IPL Lecture 16 Flashcards
What is Sidq?
Sidq is truth, and not only telling the truth, but also truth in action, faith, intention, etc.
A man commits four sins: drinking, theft, immoral actions, and lying. If he can only stop one, which should he stop?
He should stop lying, as when he stops lying, he will be afraid of doing other things as he might be asked if he does them later (narration from Rasulullah).
On which attributes do you judge a person’s faith?
Being truthful and trustworthy.
Why does a person tell lies according to narrations?
A liar doesn’t tell lies except due to him feeling mean or inferior or low inside, having such a bad opinion of themselves.
What is the cure so we can stop telling lies?
Tawhid. If we have a bad opinion of ourselves, why would we deprive ourselves of the Divine help from the One who has power over all things?
Are lies ever okay?
All lies are bad, regardless of how big or small they are. You shouldn’t even say you are full when someone offers food if you are hungry. The only exception is to reconcile two brothers.
What are some of the outcomes of telling the truth?
Being close to the Prophet. Reward from Allah. More good actions. Respect of others. Rising to the level of Sadiq then Siddeeq (being in complete harmony with the truth). Allah’s blessings.
What are some signs someone is truthful?
Their actions and words don’t contradict. They are Muhsin (do good things). They have peace of mind and confidence.
Should every truth be spoken?
While you should always tell the truth, not every truth should be spoken. For example, you should not disclose people’s secrets.
