What is the difference between Haya and Iffa?

A

Haya is a type of ethical and positive shame you feel, while Iffa is modesty and chastity. Iffa comes from Haya.

A

The faculty of reason, the faculty of anger, and the faculty of desire.

The faculties of the soul are not bad, but we need to balance each of them, so we don’t give in to them completely nor supress them completely.

A

Iffa is the balance of the faculty of desire – you regulate your desires, be it for eating, drinking, sexual relations, etc – but you don’t supress them completely.

A

Appreciation of our dignity, as well as the dignity of other people, is the root of Haya.

Can Haya be irrational? What are the two types of Haya?

A

There is rational/wise and irrational/unwise Haya. Wise Haya is the Haya which is encouraged, and unwise Haya is being afraid of shame of doing something you should be doing (for example, if you don’t how to read Quran, you are ashamed to ask because people will say “look this old man doesn’t know how to read Quran.”

Not getting into problems in Dunya or Akhira. Being free of sins and crimes. Peace of mind. Respect of others.
