IPL Lecture 15 Flashcards
What is Tawadu’?
Tawadu’ is humbleness or humility both towards Allah and towards His creation; not feeling superior to others.
What is the relationship between Tawhid and Tawadu’?
If we know Allah is the only One independent of all others, and we are dependent on Him, there is no reason for us to feel superior to others.
Once, Nabi Musa was asked by Allah to bring someone lower than him to meet Him. What happened?
Nabi Musa met Allah alone, and it is said that Allah told him, “If you had brought that animal, you would have lost your position.”
Why is it impossible for a humble person to do injustice?
Someone who is humble respects others and treats them with honour, which is the opposite of injustice.
Should we have Hubb al Zat (love of the self)?
We need to have love for ourselves to look after ourselves, but leaving the love for ourselves not properly cultivated will lead to arrogance.
Who is the most honourable in Allah’s eyes?
The most pious.
What is the difference between humility and lack of honour?
A person with lack of honour has no respect for themselves. They are happy to flatter others with power to gain something in return, or they have no confidence and can’t undergo a task. A person with humility puts in their effort and relies on Allah.
What are three effects of Tawadu’?
Allah will raise you. You will be closer to Rasulullah. It will lead you to Haya. You will not get jealous. People will love you. Allah gives you wisdom.
What are some signs of the person with Tawadu’?
They initiate Salam with others. They speak kindly with people. They don’t argue too much. They don’t look for a special place to sit. They walk with humility without looking at people in arrogance. They don’t like to be praised. They are more concerned about others, even if others aren’t the same with them. They are happy to mix with people lower in knowledge, money, position, etc. They wear nice tidy clothes but not luxurious clothes. They participate and help in their communities. They accept the truth. They don’t show off or try to get people to say they are humble.
