Initial Officer Training.
Where is IOT held?
RAF College Cranwell.
How long is training?
3 terms of 8 weeks. 24 weeks with a two week break (26 weeks). Roughly 6 months.
4 main categories of training:
1) Leadership & Teamwork.
2) Written & verbal communications.
3) Airpower studies.
4) Physical and mental development.
Where is the majority of training conducted?
Whittle Hall - a bespoke building named in honour of the inventor of the jet engine who spent many years at the college.
Where are the officer cadets accommodated?
College Hall Officers’ Mess.
How many cadet squadrons are there?
4.
Which squadron is charged with training for doctors, nurses, lawyers, reserve officers, Warrant officers and Senior Non-commissioned officers?
A squadron.
Which squadrons are for IOT officer cadets?
B, C and D squadrons.
Who are the senior personnel during IOT?
Wing commander - commands the whole of OACTU.
Squadron Leader - each squadron commanded by a separate squadron leader.
Flight Lieutenant - commands each flight (30 cadets).
Flight Sergeant - Commands each flight (30 cadets)
Which diploma will you have earned at the end of IOT?
Level 5 Diploma from both the Institute of Leadership and Management & the Chartered Management Institute. You will also gain credits towards a further education qualification.

Force Protection operate on the ground to keep control of the air. Regiment style training.
