Impairment in phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, or pragmatics which affects the ability to communicate in everyday life

Genetics - strong aggregation in families, there are some genes associated with language disorders
Cognitive factors affecting DLD
Performance-based: phonological working memory, working memory, processing speed, attention, auditory perceptual processing
Competence-based: impaired grammatical representations
Environmental factors affecting DLD
Family history, education level, family income, language background
