Introduction To Flashcards
1
Q
What is thought to be the function of reciprocity and interactiontional synchrony
A
Important in development of caregiver-infant attachment and child’s social development
2
Q
Outline reciprocity
A
- Each action elicits a response
- Babies have periodic ‘alert phases’, single for interaction
- Mothers pick up on this 2/3 of the time
- Verbal and facial signals
3
Q
Describe international synchrony
A
- Actions mirror each other
- ‘Temporal co-ordination of micro-level social behaviour’
- High levels of synchrony associated with better quality attachment
4
Q
Hard to know what is happening
A
- Observations reveal same patterns of interaction
- Difficult to infer from babies perspective
- Imitation of adult unconscious or deliberate?
- Tells us nothing about their purpose
- Evidence that it does have development affects though
5
Q
Fine detail captured
A
- Observations are well controlled with both mother and child filmed
- Footage later analysed
- Also babies do not know they’re being filmed so behaviour not affected
- Good validity
