Introduction/Ethics Flashcards
Inductive reasoning
Using specific information to make a general rule.
What is the purpose of the scientific method
Used to answer questions about the natural world (empirical)
Detective reasoning
Starting with a general rule and apply it to a specific situation.
Overview of scientific method steps–make sure I’m not a fucking idiot
Observation
Hypothesis (if/then shit)
Experiment (when that doesn’t work do some more fucking observing until it works) you can “prove” that shit either. Confirm or reject bitch.
Theory bitch. Develop one.
Conclusion: so what he fuck did I just do and what the fuck happened??
Deontological ethics
The act itself as being right or wrong. Did the mofo have good or bad intentions?
Utilitarian ethics
Focuses on the moral right of the out come of the scientist mother fuckers ideas. Did it do something fucking cool or helpful? Probably not.
Pragmatism ethics
Focuses on the practical value of an outcome. “So what? Can this experiment even be applied to real life mother fucker?”
7 characteristics of living organisms
- Cellular Organization, Order, Sensitivity, Growth/Reproduction, Energy Utilization, Adaptation, Homeostasis
What is some post-Darwin evidence of Evolution?
Fossil Record, DNA Analysis and Heredity, Comparative Anatomy
Cell theory
Cell Theory’ states all life composed of cells and all cells arise from other cells
DNA definition
- ‘DNA’ is the molecular basis of Inheritance
3 domains of life
3 Domains of Life; Bacteria, Archaea, Eukarya
4 diverse kingdoms of Eukarya
4 diverse kingdoms of Eukarya; Plantae, Animalia, Fungi, Protista
2 cell types
- There are 2 types of Cells; Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic
Prions
- Proteins that exhibit characteristics of life
