Introduction Flashcards

1
Q

Cite and localise the different lobes of the brain

A
From rostral to caudal :

Q

What is the main function of the insular lobe ?

A

Receive important information about the internal state of the body, also involved in pain and contain the gustatory cortex.

Q

What is the hippocampus ?

A

Cortical structure, one of the oldest part of the cortical cortex, it has only three layers. Very important in learning more than in memory. Plays a role in emotions and spatial orientation.

Q

What is the striatum ?

A

Made by the putamen and the caudate nucleus. Part of the basal ganglias. Inportant in the control and regulation of the movement.

Q

What is the epiphysis ?

A

also called the pineal gland. It secretes melatonin which is the basis of the circadian cycle and important in ultradian rhythms.

16
Q

What is the brainstem ?

A

It is made of three part: midbrain, the pons and the medulla.

17
Q

What is the ventricular system ?

A

Cavities with the cerebro spinal fluid including the acqueduct, lateral ventricles, third and fouth ventricles.

18
Q

What is the Cerebellum ?

A

Involved in the posture, controling the movement. 10% of the volume of the brain, half of neurones are in the cerebellum.
