Introduction Flashcards
1
Q
What is glaucome?
A
- spectrum ophthalmic disorders
- characterized neuropathy –> optic nerve + loss retinal ganglion cells –> deteriroration of visual field + loss vision
- eye pressure
2
Q
What is primary glaucoma ?
A
- cant be attributed to pre-existing ocular/ systemic disease
3
Q
What is secondary glaucoma ?
A
- attributed pre-existing ocular / systemic diseases
4
Q
What is open-angle glacuoma?
A
- normal anterior chambar angles
- glaucomatous changes = optic disc
= primary / sec
5
Q
What is angle - closure glaucoma?
A
- obstruction anterior chamber angle
- intermittent/ progressive elevated IOP = damage to optic nerve
= primary / secondary
6
Q
2 common types of glaucoma
A
- primary open-angle glaucoma – POAG
2. primary angle-closure glaucome - PACG
7
Q
How does PACG clinically present ?
A
- acute angle closure crisis - AACC
8
Q
What is acute angle closure crisis - AACC?
A
-sudden obstruction trabecular meshwork
- rapid increase IOP
= pressure-induced optic neuropathy
9
Q
comparision POAG and PACG
A
POAG - slow, insidious loss vision
PACG - rapid , painful vision loss - develops over hrs
