Matrix, the lacunar (white moon shaped thing is the visable part that you can see)
What are the 3 phases of hair cycle?

How does the skin make vit D?
UV light converts 7-dehydrocholesterol to cholecalciferol
5 Ds of why skin disease is important
Depression

What is pbotosensitivity
Allergy to the light!! Can be UVA, UVB or even visable light, so have to test to decide which one it is
What is dermatitis artefacta
When you self inflict injury to your dermis - often funky shapes etc don’t know where it has come from.
What is neurofibrimoatosis?
Lots of neurofibromas (lots of bubbly lups, looks a pit like a skin coloured aero chocolate bar)
What is Bullous Pemphigoid
Automimmune disease, casues bleeding blisters.
Small usually means how big?
under 5mm
Flat small/large
Falt small = macule
Flat large = patch
Raised small/large
Raised small = papule
Raised large = plaque
Fluid/pus/loss of epidermis small/large
Fluid:
Small = vesicle
Large = bulla
Loss of epidermis:
Small = erosion
Large = ulcer
Pus:
Small = pustule
Large = Abscess
What is a nodule?
More raised than it is wide
What are eruptive xsnthoma a sign of?
Hyperlipidaemia (they’re small cottage cheese looking like blobs around)
What is Acanthosis Nigricans?
Velvetty dark chocolate/darker skin, often armpits.
If gradual onset can be related to insulin issues
If sudden can be a malignant thing
What is Pretibial myxoedema
A thyroid skin disease:
mucin deposits in the skin
If suspect a bact. infection, what investigatino?
charcol bacterial swap: MC&S (Microscopy, Culture and Sensitivities)
If viral infection what investigations?
Viral PCR. Swab bad fluid eg pop vesicle. If systemic then take a throat swab.
Fungal infetion suspected ten what investigtions?
Skin scsrping, nail clipping or hair sample - tested for fungal cultures
Inflamatory condition, how to take a biopsy?
Punch biopsy
