Where do you find the cell bodies of the autonomic and sympathetic nerves?
In the Autonomic/motor/visceral/sympathetic ganglion One thing with a whole lot of names… all of these types of nerves have there cell bodies here. It lies outside of the vertebral canal, anterior to where the dorsal root ganglion come out.
What is contained in the dorsal horn?
multipolar neurons that send axons to multipolar neurons in: -higher levels of the CNS OR -the ventral horn
What is contained in the lateral horn? What parts of the spinal cord is the lateral horn found?
Contains preganglionic cell bodies of the autonomic nervous system Only found in throracic and upper lumbar spinal cord
What cell bodies are contained in the ventral horn?
1) Alpha motor neurons - innervate extrafusal skeletal fibers - also known as lower motor neurons 2) Gamma motor neurons - innervate intrafusal muscle fibers of the neuromuscular spindle
What is contained within the dorsal column (funiculus) of the spinal cord?
Ascending nerve processes(axons) that have cell bodies within the dorsal root ganglia - These nerves are carrying touch and proprioception senses
The lateral column (funiculus) of the spinal cord contains what exactly?
1)Ascendng sensory nerve fiber tracts that have their cell bodies in the dorsal horn 2) Descending motor nerve tracts whose cell bodies originate in the brain stem and cerebrum

Where are the cell bodies of multipolar neurons located?
The dorsal horn! Ya it’s a repeat… so remember it!
Where are the cell bodies of alpha and gamma motor neurons located?
The ventral horn!
Where are the cell bodies of axons found in the dorsal column located?
Dorsal root ganglion!
Where are the sympathetic preganglionic cell bodies located in the spinal cord?
lateral horn! yup
The sympathetic and parasympathtic ganglia are located at which parts of the spinal cord? And which ganglia are found closer to the spinal cord?
The sympathetic ganglia run the entire length of the spinal cord, wherease the parasympathetic ganglia come off only at the cranial nerves and at the very inferior part of the spinal cord. The sympathetic ganglia are located closer to the spinal cord than the parasympathetic ganglia, which are located close to the organ of innervation.
Describe what the ventral and dorsal rami are and where they go!
After leveling the vertebral canal, each spinal nerve is divided into the ventral and dorsal rami. Both rami have both sensory and motor functions The dorsal ramus supplies the deep back muscles and skin of the back. SMALLER The ventral ramus makes up the nerve plexi and intercostal nerves that supply the limbs and rest of the body wall. BIGGER
My gut says a picture having us distinguish between the two rami will be on the test.
