define structural isomerism
molecules with the some molecular formula but different structural formula
define positional isomerism
molecules with the same functional group but functional group is attached to main chain at different places
define functional group isomerism
same molecular formula but different functional group
define chain isomerism
same molecular formula but hydrocarbon chain organised differently e.g. 4c chain v 2c chain
how is E-Z isomerism caused and how is each isomer decided
E-Z isomerism is caused by limited rotation around a C=C double bond, groups with the highest atomic number on the same side is the Z isomer, if they are on different side it is the E isomer
