Intro to CV pharm Flashcards
What are the 2 divisions of the ANS ad how are they divided?
- Sympathetic (thoracolumbar)
2. Parasympathetic (craniosacral)
Where do both divisions originate from?
Both divisions originate in nuclei within the CNS and give rise to preganglionic efferent fibers that exit from thebrain stem or spinal cord and terminate in motor ganglia.
Where do sympathetic preganglionic fibers exit the CNS?
Through the thoracic and lumbar spinal nerves
Where do parasympathetic preganglionic fibers leave the CNS?
Through the cranial nerves (particularly 3, 7, 9, 10) and the 3rd and 4th sacral spinal nerves
What is the main side effect of Alpha-1 agonist?
Orthostatic hypotension and
syncope, especially on 1st dose
What do Alpha-1 agonist do?
Block α1 receptors on arterioles and venules
