What do organs make
organ systems
Define cells
cells refers to the lowest structural level, they are specialized to carry out different functions
Define organ
Organ refers to two or more tissues which serve a specific function
Define cell differentiation
The development of specialised cells in multicellular organisms from unspecialised cells in the early stages of organism’s growth
Define Cell Speciation
specialised cells that are formed for a specific function
Cell Theory
All organisms are made of cells, which are the basic unit of life and arise from pre-existing cells.
what are cells made up of (Hint 9 Things)
Cells are made up of a cell membrane, golgi apparatus, ribosome, cytoplasm, lysosome, mitochondrion, centrioles.
Organelles make up the nucleus, and nucleolus.
Describe cytoplasm
thick fluid within cell membrane. Made up of cytosol
Centrioles
a pare of cylindrical structures usually located near the nucleus: involved in the reproduction of cell
Endoplasmic reticulum
Used for storage and transport of materials. Can be smooth or rough
Ribosome
small spherical, may be free in the cytoplasm or attached to rough ER
cytoskeleton
consists of microfilaments and microtubules that give the cell its shape and assist the movement of materials, organelles or the whole cell.
lysosomes
small spheres that contain enzymes able to break down proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and carbs.
