Intro lecture Flashcards
Baers laws
- specialized characteristics occur in development, general characteristics are the first to appear
- Special forms are developed from general forms
- Every embryo of a given form doesn’t go through every other form, but into its own specialization
- Final embryo of a higher form never resembles an embryo of a lower form
What are the six stages of development
- Cell division
- Pattern emergence
- Change in morphology
- Cell differentiation
- Growth
- Death
what are the three germ layers
Mesoderm, ectoderm, endoderm
Define invagination
Infolding of cell sheet into embryo
Define involution
Inturning of a cell sheet over the basal basal surface of the outer layer
Define ingression
Migration of individual cells into the embryo
Define delamination
Splitting or migration of one sheet into two sheets.
Define epiboly
the expansion of one cell sheet over other cells
Define condensation
Mesenchymal cells become epithelial cells
Define migration
Cells move at particular times and places
Matrix secretion and degradation
Synthesis or removal of extracellular label
Define epithelial Dispersal
Epithelium becomes mesenchyme
Define epithelial delamination
Parts of an epithelial layer disperse out to become mesenchymal cells
Define epithelial cell migration
Rows of epithelia merge to form fewer rows
Define epithelial migration
Formation of a free edge (the outside)
