  • known situations can influence our perceptions of others in unexpected ways:
    >situation others are in
    (funeral/non-funeral & evaluation of ‘sadder’ for same
    face if funeral (trope, 1986)
    >situation we are in;
    (weather- if sunny day, acknowledged skin cancer liklihoos more than if not sunny (lee, gino, staats, 2014)

  • fundamental attribution error= bias in attributing others’ behaviour to INTERNAL causes over situational
  • actor-observer discrepency= perceive our own behaviour to be due to EXTERNAL influences but perceived others to be due to INTERNAL
  • conscious experience is constructed & not always accurate> idea our ‘reality’ is the ‘true reality’> creating empathy gaps
