A
Emergency access for administration of medications and/or fluids in paediatric patients, when IV access is unavailable

Intraosseous access - Contraindications (3)
A
Defect in cortex of chosen tibia:
1. Fracture of that bone
2. Previous attempts which penetrated the cortex of that bone
3. Infected skin overlaying insertion site

Intraosseous access - Complications (4)
A
- Damage to bone growth plate
- Infection
- Possible fracture of the site (excessive force)
- Extravasation - check site frequently for signs of swelling and needle displacement
