IG tube - Indications (1)
A
Gastric distention by air or fluid (eg. near drowning or poorly performed IPPV) which can cause;
1. Increased risk of regurgitation
2. Fluid absorbtion and consequent fluid overload
3. Interference with breathing or IPPV
It is particularly useful for;
1. All intubated paediatrics
2. Pt’s exhibiting continuous vomiting
3. Tx of neonates, spinal patients and abdominal problems

Suspected basal skull fracture - ALWAYS insert tube via mouth and not nose in this circumstance
