He headed the Indian nationalist movement. He taught civil disobedience. He led the “Salt March” and other peaceful protests.

In 1919, British troops fired upon Indian protesters killing 400. This incident solidified anti-British feelings.

He modernized/ industrialized/ westernized Turkey.
Kemal Ataturk
Modernizing Iran: builds roads, schools. Supports some western practices. Women gain rights. Islamic law replaced.
Rheza Khan
After Lenin died in 1924, he defeated Trotsky to gain power in the U.S.S.R. He created consecutive five year plans to expand heavy industry. He tried to crush all opposition and ruled as the absolute dictator of the U.S.S.R. until his death.
