Interviewing Children Flashcards
Should children participate in interviews for the purpose of research?
Children can give different perspectives
Adults are not assuming what children are thinking or feeling
Kids may try to please the interviewers
It can be hard to interpret what they are saying
What are the current views of children and research?
Children have a right to express themselves and have a part in decision-making that affects them
Children’s perspectives are valued
What were historical views of children and research?
Children were seen and not heard
They were not a reliable source of information
Researchers ask parents about the child
What are the conditions for engaging children in research

Protection
What are considerations for interviewing children with impairments?
Every child is an individual and you may have to adapt things to fit their needs
What is the theorizing approach?
imagine somebody else –> they can talk about someone else to see how they would percieve things in their environment
