Socialization, support, task completion, camaraderie, information sharing, normative influence, empowerment, and governance.
All of these are functions of a group.
To accomplish a specific outcome or task. The focus is on problem solving and making decisions to achieve this outcome
Task groups
To convey knowledge and information to a number of individuals.
Teaching groups
To teach participants effective ways to deal with emotional stress arising from situation no or developmental crisis
Supportive therapeutic groups
allows clients to talk about their fears and relieve feelings of isolation while receiving comfort and advise from others undergoing similar experiences
Self-help groups
the difference between psychosocial treatment in which a number of clients meet together with a therapist for purposes of sharing, ganging personal insight, and improving interpersonal coping strategies

Initial or orientation phase
During this phase of group development productive work towards completion of task, leadership role diminishes and is more facilitator, trust has been established in cohesiveness exist, and conflict is managed by the group members themselves
Middle or working phase
During this phase of group development there can be a sense of loss and grief, leaders encourage members to discuss feelings of loss and reflect on the accomplishment of the group, and feelings of abandonment may be experienced
Final or termination phase
