Interval 4 Flashcards
iliacus
a flat, triangular muscle which fills the iliac fossa.
transversus abdominus
a muscle layer of the anterior and lateral (front and side) abdominal wall which is deep to (layered below) the internal oblique muscle.
psoas major
a long fusiform muscle located on the side of the lumbar region of the vertebral column and brim of the lesser pelvis. It joins the iliacus muscle to form the iliopsoas.
quadratus lumborum
L and R crura of the diaphragm
tendinous structures that extend inferiorly from the diaphragm to attach to the vertebral column.
medial arcuate ligament
a tendinous fascia that arches over the psoas major muscle as it passes through the diaphragm.
lateral arcuate ligament
a ligament under the diaphragm that arches across the upper part of the quadratus lumborum. It is traversed by the subcostal nerve, artery and vein.
thoracic duct
the largest lymphatic vessel of the lymphatic system. The vessel usually starts from the level of the second lumbar vertebra and extends to the root of the neck. It drains into the systemic (blood) circulation at the left subclavian vein
ligamentum arteriosum
a smal ligament attached to the superior surface of the left pulmonary artery and the proximal descending aorta. It is a remnant of the fetal ductus arteriosum.
fossa ovalis
a depression in the right atrium of the heart, the remnant of a thin fibrous sheet that covered the foramen ovale during fetal development. During fetal development, the foramen ovale allows blood to pass from the right atrium to the left atrium, bypassing the nonfunctional fetal lungs while the fetus obtains its oxygen from the placenta.
iliohypogastric n.
this nerve emerges inferior to the subcostal nerve, between the psoas major and the quadratus lumborum
ilioinguinal n.
this nerve emerges lateral to the psoas major and pierces the inguinal canal, passing through the superficial inguinal rind to innervate skin of medial thigh, labius major, and anterior scrotum
genitofemoral n.
this nerve courses through and then anterior to the psoas major. it innervates the skin of medial thigh and the cremasteric muscle
lateral femoral cutaneous n.
this nerve emerges lateral to the psoas major and crosses the iliacus to reach the ASIS
femoral n.
This nerve originates at L2-L4 and emerges lateral to psoas major and inferior to the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. It passes posterior to the inguinal ligament and lateral to the femoral artery (VAN).
It innervates muscles in the anterior thigh.
