- when ferric iron is eaten not a lot is absorbed
- vitamin c changes ferric iron to more absorbable ferrous iron
- as more iron absorbed this ensures adequate red blood cell count so oxygen circulate body
- if iron is lacking folic acid can step in and improve red blood cell count
