Interphase Flashcards
Define interphase
The phase in the cell cycle when the cell is not dividing
What shape are the chromosomes during interphase?
They are very elongated and it is impossible to distinguish individual chromosomes
Why is it impossible to distinguish individual chromosomes in a nucleus of a cell during interphase?
As the chromosomes are very elongated
What do the chromosomes in the nucleus of a cell during interphase appear as?
A mass of material called chromatin
What does the cell produce during the early part of interphase?
New organelles such as mitochondria or chloroplasts are produced
What organelles are produced during the early part of interphase?
Mitochondria
Chloroplasts
Besides organelles what is formed during the early stage of interphase?
Chemicals are formed
What are the chemicals formed during the early stage of interphase needed for?
These chemicals are needed for growth, enzymes and other proteins
What happens to chromosomes near the end of interphase?
The chromosomes produce identical copies of themselves
What type of chromosome is formed when a chromosome duplicates at the end of interphase?
A chromosome with two strands is produced which have identical genes
