What is the internet
A worldwide computer network, consisting of computers and networks that are linked using various cables for communication and sharing of resources
What is an IP
Internet Protocol - Every device that connects to a network must have its own unique IP

What is an ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - A permanent digital connection to the internet using a telephone line
Split into two channels - one for calls and the other for the internet
Why is ADSL suited for home use as well as small and large businesses
Includes a monthly ISP cost and you do not pay for the connection time to the internet
You can access the internet and make phone calls at the same time
ISPs offer different data packages that have different perks
What is the World Wide Web
A service that runs on the internet and is a collection of interlinked, interactive documents stored on computers all over the world that can be accessed via the internet

HTML
What is a Web Page
Any electronic document on the web
What is a website
It consists of web pages and is maintained by an organisation
What is a hyperlink
A built-in connection to another related web page and is indicated as text underlined in blue
What is the World Wide Web Consortium
An organisation founded and headed by Tim Berners-Lee - Its function is to develop standards so the WWW reaches its full potential
What is a URL
Uniform Resource Locator - An alpha-numerical address used to identify resources such as web pages
What does HTTP stand for
HyperText Transfer Protocol
What does SMTP stand for
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol
