You type the email using email software and type in the recipients address
Once you send the message it is sent to the email server at your ISP
It is then sent to the email server at the receiver’s ISP
The message is held at the server until the recipient checks their e-mail and opens it

E-mails are much faster than traditional mail
They can be sent from anywhere and any time
They are inexpensive
They are versatile
Protects the environment as paper is no longer needed

Recipient needs access to the internet to receive an e-mail
Viruses are easily spread via attachments
There is no guarantee the mail will be read until the user logs on
Users can receive large amounts of spam

A service that allows you to access an email account through a web browser anywhere that has internet access

It is free of charge but you may have to pay for internet
