Interior of the Heart Flashcards
What vessels drain into the right atrium?
Vena Cava
Coronary sinus
What are the crista terminalis?
Space between inferior and superior vena cava indicated by a smooth muscular ridge that extends from roof of atria in front of superior vena cava then lateral down wall to lip of inferior vena cava
What is the foramen ovale?
Allows blood to cross atrium to bypass pulmonary circulation - closes after birth
Describe the chordinae tendineae
Tendinous chords - heart strings
Connects papillary muscles to tricuspid valve
What would be the effect of mitral stenosis on the heart?
Increase in pressure in the lungs, leading to fluid accumulation
Describe ASD and VSD
Atrio septal defect and ventral septal defect
ASD - blood flows from left to right atrium
VSD - O2 blood passes from left to right ventricle
What is the moderator band?
Specialised trabecular which bridges the lower portion of the inter ventricular septum and the base of anterior papillary muscle - septomarginal trabecula
