Abdominal Cavity and Peritoneal Reflections Flashcards
What is nerve supply to the parietal peritoneum?
Somatic afferents, lumbar 2-4 sensitive to localised pain
What organs are intraperitoneal?
Stomach, Liver and gall bladder, spleen, duodenum (superior), Jejunum, ileum, caecum, appendix, transverse colon, sigmoid colon, rectum (upper 1/3)
What organs are retroperitoneal?
Pancreas, kidneys, ascending colon, descending colon, abdominal aorta and inferior vena cava
What organs are in the infracolic compartment?
Small intestine, ascending and descending colon
What organs are in the supracolic compartment?
Stomach, liver and spleen - lesser omentum
What is the ligamentum teres?
Free edge of falciform ligament of the liver
Describe the bare area of the liver
Triangular area of the diaphragmatic surface of the liver without peritoneal covering, right and left triangular ligaments found in the triangular area
Coronary ligament attaches the superior surface of the liver to the inferior surface of the diaphragm
What are the left and right parabolic gutters?
depressions formed between lateral margins of the ascending and descending colon and proterolateral abdominal wall
- Material can pass from one region of peritoneal cavity to another
How are the lesser and greater sacs connected ?
Epipiloric foramen / omental foramen
What is the nerve supply to the fore and midgut?
Vagus nerve
What is the nerve supply to the hindgut?
Caudal outflow
What is the nerve supply to the bladder?
Sacral spinal cord segments S2- S4
