What is interdependence?
the relationships shared by organisms of different species that are essential to life in many different organisms found in the environment.
What are examples of interdependence?
Clownfish live in habitats full of sea anemones. The fish are protected from predators by the anemones and they provide a nutrient resource for the anemones. This is an example of mutualism as an act of interdependence.
What are the different symbiotic relationships?
Mutualism, Commensalism, Parasitism
What is Mutalism?
It is the interaction between two or more species where each species has a benefit.
What is Commensalism?
Commensalism is where members of one species gain benefits while those of the other species neither benefit nor are harmed.
What is parasitism?
Parasitism is a close relationship between species, where one organism, the parasite, lives on or inside another organism, the host, causing it some harm, and is adapted structurally to this way of life.
What is the defintion of a niche?
It is the match of a species to a specific environmental condition. It describes how an organism or population responds to the distribution of resources and competitors and how it in turn alters those same factors.
What is the defintion of a interspecies competition?
It is a form of competition in which individuals of different species compete for the same resources in an ecosystem. This can be contrasted with mutualism, a type of symbiosis.
What is resource portioning?
the division of resources to avoid interspecific competition for limited resources in an ecosystem. It is an evolutionary adaptation that helps various species coexist in an ecological community.
