Interdependance Flashcards
What do members of the same species compete for?
- resources
* mates (breeding)
Why do animals compete?
They are similar and live in the same habitat and need the same resources
What is an ecological niche?
The habitat that an animal lives in and their role in it
Why do organisms that have the same. Ecological niche often compete?
They require the same (similar) resources
What is intra specific competition?
Competition between organism of the same species.
What is interspecific competition?
Competition between different species
What is more significant, intra/inter specific competition?
Intraspecific because they’re from the same species so they need similar things and for fill the same niche
In What motion does the predator/ prey relationship population graph go? Why?
one goes up, soon followed by the other meaning that the first goes down then the other. Because when there are lots of prey there’s more food for predators but when they’ve eaten it there isn’t enough to sustain the population so it drops meaning the prey can breed more as there are less being eaten. It’s one after another as the populations don’t increase/ decrease overnight
What does as parasite do?
Feeds on another living organism (a host)
Why is a parasitic relationship bad for the host?
The host suffers as a result of the feeding
