what was the doll test?
effect of racism on children
An experiment where children where told to pick either the black doll or the white doll. They were asked questions such as which doll is pretty/ugly/good/evil/nice/mean.
what is the Blue eyes/brown eyes experiment – Jane Elliot (1968)
hildren were split into two groups, people with blue eyes and people with brown eyes.
On the first day of the experiment, children with blue eyes were told they were really smart and better than the people with brown eyes, and they had more privileges.
On the second day, she switched the group so that the brown eyed people were the superior ones.
As they went through the pack of cards each day, the group being told that they were superior had considerably better results because the group being treated badly who had the “bad” eye colour scored lower because they couldn’t stop thinking about how they were being treated.
