Sociocultural

1) Culture is learned, not innate. We are not born with a culture

3) Culture is shared, patterned and mutually constructed through social interaction
4) Culture defines the boundaries of different groups
Concentrating on linear time, sequential activities; completing one before moving on to the next. Setting and meeting deadlines. US, Canada, northern Europe, Japan “Time is money.”
Monochronic
Doing many things at once; attention to simultaneous activities. Time is relative; deadlines not as important as relationships. Multitasking. Southern Europe, Latin America and much of Asia
Polychronic
Hall’ Context Culture: Most communication is innate, unspoken, implicit, understood. What is not said is often more important than what is said. Knowledge is situational; relational. Japan, China, the Middle East, Latin America. “Build a Relationship.”
HIgh
Hall’s Context Culture : Explicit communications, little ambiguity. Direct and unambiguous. You say what you mean. Knowledge is transferable. Northern Europe, Canada, US, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. “Get to the Point”
