Instrument (Private Level) Flashcards
1
Q
Standard rate turn
A
3 degrees per second
Trick: use 15% of true airspeed to determine the bank angle. Divide by 10 and add back half.
Ex: 100 Knots TAS / 10 = 10 + 5 = 15 degree bank
2
Q
Coordinated rollout
A
Divide the standard turn rate by 2 and subtract from desired heading
Ex:
- Current heading is 030
- Desired heading is 120
- 15 degree bank is standard rate
In this example, you’d start the rollout at 112.5 heading
3
Q
Nose-High Attitude Recovery
A
- Increase power as necessary
- Apply forward elevator pressure to lower the nose
- Correct bank angle, proper aileron and rudder pressure
4
Q
Nose-Low attitude recovery
A
- Reduce power
- Wings level and coordinated
- Raise nose, apply smooth back elevator pressure
5
Q
An upset is defined as?
A
An event that unintentionally exceeds the parameters normally exceeded in flight or training
6
Q
Human factors resulting in an unusual attitude or upset are?
A
- VMC into IMC
- Diversion of attention
- Task saturation
- Sensory overload/deprivation
- Startle response
- Surprise response
