Flight Instruments Flashcards
Pitot Static
Consist of the pitot tube and static port. Responsible for operation of the airspeed indicator, altimeter, and vertical speed indicator
Gyroscopic Instruments
Consists of the heading indicator, attitude indicator, and turn-slip indicator. Two fundamental properties of gyroscopic action are rigidity in space and precession.
Rigidity in space
Principle that a gyroscope remains in a fixed position in the plane in which it is spinning.
Precession
The tilting or turning of a gyro in response to a deflective force. Allows for the gyro to determine a rate.
AHRS (Altitude and Heading Reference System)
Replaced free spinning gyros with solid-state laser systems that are capable of flight at any attitude without tumbling.
Sends attitude information the the PFD
Magnetometer
Senses the earths lines of magnetic flux. The information is processed in the AHRS system and sent the the PFD.
