Lost comms in VMC, what to do?
- Maintain VMC
- Land as soon as practicable
- Notify ATC
Lost comms in IMC, what to do?
- As assigned (last clearance received)
- vectors (If cleared by vectors to a fix, proceed direct)
- Expected (where ATC advised may be expected)
- As filed (if nothing else assigned)
Lost comms altitude selection:
The highest of:
- Last assigned
- Minimum IFR altitude for that segment
- Expected in a further clearance
During lost comms when cleared to an IAF what time should you start your approach:2
- at EFC
If EFC is not given: - at ETA as filed or amended ETA
If cleared to an IAF and arrives early what are you going to do?
Hold at the fix until EFC or ETA, then start the approach
During lost comms when the clearance limit is not an IAF what is the procedure:
- Leave the clearance limit at EFC if information received in a clearance
If EFC is not given: - Continue to the IAF and start approach at ETA
If cleared to an IAF and holding is necessary, how should you hold?
If arriving before ETA hold until you reach ETA in a;
- Arrival holding pattern
- Holding in leu of procedure turn
- Final approach course on the procedure turn side
- on the arrival course
What IAF should you use in a lost commo procedure?
The most appropriate IAF for you
During radar approach if no transmissions are heard in the time specified by controller you would:
- Attempt to contact alternate frequency
- If unable, maintain VMC
or - Execute lost comms procedure as previously directed by ATC
- Climb to MSA or ESA if no lost comms procedure was specified
