What is in repellents (4)
A
- diethyltoluamide(DEET).
- 50% DEET are most effective at bite prevention.
- insect repellents containing high concentrations of DEET do not recommend their products are used in young children
- Jungle Formula Kids, include the ingredient IR3535 which is suitable for children and does not contain DEET.

What treatment is there for Insect bites and stings (5)
A
- Antihistamine - redness, swelling, irritation
- Antiseptic - prevent infection
- Hydrocortisone - itching management
- Crotamiton - reduce itching
- Paracetamol/NSAID (ibuprofen)

When should an insect bite be referred (6)
A
- Being stung anywhere on the face,in the mouth or around the eyes
- Has severe swelling and blistering around the bite or sting
- Appears to be an allergic reaction to the bite or sting – requires emergency medical treatment
- The bite/sting has not started to get better within a few days or if symptoms are worse
- There are symptoms of infection in the bite/sting wound such as pus or inflammation, pain or swelling that is worsening
- Rash that may look like the bullseye on a dartboard
