Define , distinguish between and provide examples of concepts and constructs 5 marks .
A
- Concepts : An abstract , intangible object that forms the basis of theories . Can be events , objects , relationships or processes .
- Constructs : The link that exists between concepts . The specific meaning arising from that link is a construct .
- So then concepts are the “building blocks” of constructs .
- eg : “power” is the construct , built of concepts like , fame , money , job , car driven etc .

Define conceptualisation 3 marks .

*Refinement and specification of abstract concepts to create a specific meaning for the purpose of a research project . Key words get their meaning when used contextually in the research

Distinguish between different views on the identification and definition of concepts and constructs 7 marks
A
- Hermaneutic = definition of common terms used by the participants of your study
- Adaptive alternative = We create bridges between phenomena we can observe and those we can’t but still try to define and perceive . This is done with four types of concepts : Behavioural(description of certain parts of participant behaviour) , systemic( description of the social sysem of the participant) , Briding concepts (use to link behavioural and systemic . 3 parts to it - experience , strategic postion of certain individuals and nature of social relations) . General (concepts invented by social theorists that are imbedded in society and social life of participants .
